Mayor Stolten Medal

The Mayor Stolten Medal is one of the highest honors of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg , in which traditionally no medals are awarded (see Hanseatic League and Awards ).

The medal honors personalities of the city who have made lasting contributions to Hamburg. Above all, the sponsors come from the fields of politics and business. Exceptions are, for example, the president of the Hamburger Sportbund Fritz Bauer (1982), the journalist Axel Eggebrecht and the film producer Gyula Trebitsch (1994).

The medal was donated on September 20, 1925. It was named after Otto Stolten , the first social democratic member of the Hamburg parliament . Stolten, who served as Second Mayor of the Hamburg Senate from 1919 to 1925 , was also the first person to receive the medal in 1925.

Richard Luksch designed the medal . The front shows Stolten's profile with the inscription BÜRGERMEISTER OTTO STOLTEN 1919–1925 . On the back is the coat of arms of Hamburg , framed by two lions and the words THE GEMEINWOHL IS THE HIGHEST LAW . The artist's monogram can also be found at the bottom of this page.
