Oswald Paulig

Oswald Paulig (* 8. May 1922 in Bergedorf ; † 13. June 2006 ) was a German consumer cooperative and SPD - politician .

youth

Oswald Paulig was born in Hamburg-Bergedorf in 1922 and attended elementary school at the Brink school from 1929 to 1933. Until he graduated from high school in 1941, he went to the Hansa School , today's Hansa Gymnasium , in Bergedorf. He then worked as a soldier pilot in the Air Force until 1945. In 1945 he began his studies at the University of Hamburg , which he graduated in 1949 with a degree in economics .

Consumer cooperative

From 1949 to 1961 Paulig was employed by the consumer cooperative goods and economic center, the Großeinkaufsgesellschaft Deutscher Konsumgenossenschaften mbH (GEG), Hamburg. During this time in 1952 he went to Sweden for a year at the Kooperativa Förbundet in Sweden. Until 1954 he was the personal assistant to the chairman of the management Gustav Dahrendorf . From 1968 to 1987 he was President of the Federation of German Consumer Cooperatives (BdK) , Hamburg. From 1975 he was a board member of the Auditing Association of German Consumer Cooperatives (RdK). During his tenure, the consumer cooperative movement and the co op group of companies declined .

From 1986 to 1990 Paulig was a board member of the Federal Association for the Promotion of the Cooperative Idea

When asked about his abundance of offices, also in the SPD, he replied: "I had to fulfill a contract with the Federation of German Consumer Cooperatives , and I never broke the contract."

Others

In 1961 he was appointed director of the Hamburgische Wohnungsbaukasse, a public company. He stayed there until 1968, when he returned to the consumer cooperative movement.

Politician

In 1945 Oswald Paulig joined the SPD . He was in the party initially until 1949 a member of the SDS . Paulig was then from 1949 to 1953 a member of the Bergedorf District Assembly and from 1953 to 1982 a member of the Hamburg Parliament . From 1965 to 1970 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

From 1970 to 1980 he was regional chairman of the SPD Hamburg and from 1980 to 1994 treasurer of the Hamburg SPD. In 1994 Oswald Paulig was elected honorary chairman of the SPD Hamburg.

He was called " Ossi " among his Hamburg party comrades .

Honors

  • He was awarded the Mayor Stolten Medal in 1997.
  • Oswald Paulig was honored for 60 years of membership in the SPD at the Christmas party in the Bergedorf district of the SPD on December 10, 2005.
