Werner Staak

Werner Staak (born January 29, 1933 in Trittau ; † November 27, 2006 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1974 to 1980 he was Hamburg Senator for the Interior and before that he was a member of the German Bundestag from 1970 .

Life

After attending elementary school, Staak completed an apprenticeship as a cabinet maker and cabinet maker, initially worked in this profession and later switched to electricity and port construction as a worker and employee. In addition, he continued his education at evening school and attended party and trade union school. He was employed at Neue Heimat and chaired the Hamburg local administration of the trade union trade, banks and insurance companies . He also studied business administration at the Academy for Community Economy in Hamburg .

Staak joined the SPD in 1951 and was later elected to the state executive committee of the SPD Hamburg. In 1980/81 he was regional chairman of the Hamburg Social Democrats.

Staak was a member of the Hamburg parliament for the first time from the state elections in 1970 until the resignation on May 21, 1970 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from May 21, 1970, when he replaced the resigned MP Ilse Elsner , until his resignation on November 13, 1974. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of the SPD Hamburg. Staak served as Senator for the Interior of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in the Senates Klose I and Klose II from 1974 to 1980 . From 1978 to 1982 he was again a member of the mayor, although his mayor was suspended until November 26, 1980 because of his membership in the Senate.

In 1981 Staak played an important role in the conflict over the Brokdorf nuclear power plant . Although the then mayor Hans-Ulrich Klose and the majority of the Hamburg SPD rejected the construction of the nuclear power plant, Staak stuck to it. Klose therefore resigned in May 1981.
