Volker Lange (born December 15, 1943 in Bernburg (Saale) ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former Hamburg senator.

Life and politics

In 1949, Volker Lange moved from the GDR with his parents to the Federal Republic of Germany, to Hamburg. After leaving school, he studied French and sports for teaching at the University of Hamburg . He worked from 1968 to 1978 as a teacher and later as a school principal in Hamburg.

Lange joined the SPD in 1968 and was district chairman of the SPD Hamburg-Mitte . In 1970/71 he was a member of the Hamburg-Mitte district assembly . From December 16, 1971, when, after the death of the MP Otto Schwieger, he was the next appointed candidate until the end of the 1974 electoral term, he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament until 1991. During his tenure as a senator, his term of office was suspended from June 28, 1978 to June 8, 1988.

From 1978 to 1988 he was a member of the state government of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in various offices as a senator. From 1978 to 1982 he worked as a building senator , from 1982 to 1987 as a senator for economy, transport and agriculture and in the years 1987/88 as an interior senator .

In June 1990 he was elected President of the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK).
