Gunnar Uldall (* 17th November 1940 in Hamburg , † 14. November 2017 ) was a German management consultant , politician of the CDU and Senator for Economics and Labor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg.

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Hamburg in 1960, Gunnar Uldall served as a contract soldier in the German Armed Forces from 1960 to 1962 ; after later exercises he reached the rank of first lieutenant in the reserve. From 1962 he then completed a degree in economics at the University of Hamburg , which he completed in 1966 with a degree in economics . Since then he has been working as an independent management consultant. In 1971 he founded Uldall Unternehmensberatung GmbH, whose main shareholder he was until 1983. Then he was a partner in the Mummert + Partner group of companies until November 2001.

Political activity

Since 1962 Uldall was a member of the CDU. From 1966 to 1983 he was a member of the Hamburg Parliament . From 1983 to November 6, 2001 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the finance committee (development of a tiered model for a new income tax with tariff levels 8% / 18% / 28%) and from 1996 to 2001 economic policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . Uldall was always drawn into the Bundestag via the Hamburg state list. From October 2001 to May 2008 he was Senator for Economics and Labor and President of the Department for Economics and Labor in the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg under Mayor Ole von Beust (including expansion of the Airbus plant in Hamburg-Finkenwerder and creation of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA)). In June 2015, the general meeting of the Hamburg regional association elected him regional chairman of the CDU's economic council .

Other offices, honors and awards

From June 2008 to the end of 2014, Uldall was President of the Federal Association of Parcel and Express Logistics (BIEK) in Berlin. He was also a member of the supervisory boards of various companies. In 1995 Uldall received the German Elite SME Award . In addition, Uldall was awarded the Wolfram Engels Prize in 1998 for his concept for the reorganization of income and corporation tax .

In 2019, the "Gunnar Uldall Business Prize" was awarded for the first time by several initiators. It wants to contribute to promoting the values ​​of the social market economy and maintaining them over generations. Courageous entrepreneurial personalities are honored. The initiators of the prize, which is endowed with 10,000 euros annually, also want to stimulate scientific work on the market economy and the transfer of knowledge about the social market economy and promote vocational training, including student aid, especially for young people.

Family and private

Gunnar Uldall was the son of the composer Hans Uldall . He was a Protestant, married and has three children. He last lived in Hamburg-Bergstedt .
