Detlef Scheele (born September 30, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been Chairman of the Board of the Federal Employment Agency since April 1, 2017 . Before that, from 2008 to 2009 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs , from 2011 to 2015 Hamburg Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Family and Integration and since 2015 a member of the board of the Federal Employment Agency.

Life

After graduating from high school in Bahrenfeld in 1977 and doing civilian service , Scheele began studying politics, sports and educational science at the University of Hamburg in 1979 and graduated in 1984 with the first state examination for teaching at the high school.

From 1985 to 1987 Scheele was the personal advisor to the then SPD state chairman Ortwin Runde . He then moved to the Center for Professional Qualification (ZEBRA) eV as deputy managing director and rose to become sole managing director in 1991. In 1995, he also moved to the municipal Hamburger-Arbeit-Employment Company (HAB) as sole managing director and worked there until he was appointed State Secretary in 2008. For many years he was district chairman of the SPD Hamburg-Nord .

From April 2, 2008 to December 31, 2009, Scheele was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs under the then Federal Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) . After the change of government as a result of the federal election in 2009 , he left office.

From February 2010 until his appointment to the Senate, Scheele was managing director of Elbe-Werkstätten and other Hamburg companies that offer jobs for disabled people .

On March 23, 2011, Scheele was appointed Senator and President of the Authority for Labor, Social Affairs, Family and Integration ( Senate Scholz I ) by Olaf Scholz, now First Mayor of Hamburg . He was confirmed in his office in the Scholz II Senate . On July 3, 2015, the administrative board of the Federal Employment Agency (BA) elected him in an extraordinary meeting to the new board of labor market of the BA and thus to the three-person board. Scheele succeeded Heinrich Alt on October 15, 2015 , who retired on June 30, 2015. Scheele's successor in the Senatorial Office was Melanie Leonhard on October 1, 2015 .

On October 7, 2016, the administrative board of the Federal Agency decided to propose Scheele as the successor to Frank-Jürgen Weise in the office of Chairman of the Executive Board. He took up this position on April 1, 2017. Frank-Jürgen Weise resigned because he had reached the age limit at the end of March 2017. As a new board member, Valerie Holsboer moved up to the board of the Federal Agency.

Detlef Scheele is married and has three children.
