Helgrit Fischer-Menzel
Helgrit Fischer-Menzel (born September 2, 1948 in Nienburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ), retired senator. D. and former member of the Hamburg Parliament .
Fischer-Menzel studied sociology and graduated with a diploma. She took on a role in the Hamburg environmental authority.
In the 1980s she was the SPD district chairman of Hamburg-Nord .
From 1993 to 1998 she was Senator and President of the Department of Labor, Health and Social Affairs. During her senatorial tenure, she made some unpopular decisions, such as the one to close the port hospital . From 1997 to 2001 she was a member of the Hamburg citizenship, her mandate was suspended during her membership in the Senate (Article 39, formerly 38a, of the Hamburg Constitution).
In March 1998, she resigned on alleged favoritism after she was accused of personal commitment to fund a foundation run by her husband. Karin Roth became his successor as Senator for Labor, Health and Social Affairs on April 1, 1998 . Fischer-Menzel then accepted her citizenship mandate and stayed there until the end of the electoral term.
