Birgit Schnieber-Jastram born. Jastram (born July 4, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014 .

From 2001 to 2008 she was Senator for Social Affairs and Family and since 2004 also Second Mayor of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Since May 1, 2006, she has also been in charge of health policy (formerly with Senator Jörg Dräger ) and thus became President of the Authority for Social Affairs, Family, Health and Consumer Protection.

After attending grammar school and then from 1964 to 1966 the State Commercial and Higher Commercial School in Hamburg, Birgit Schnieber-Jastram worked for advertising and public relations agencies in Hamburg and Bonn until 1970 . After attending a course for young journalists at the Christian Press Academy in 1968 , she worked from 1971 to 1979 as an editor at the Markt & Medien GmbH publishing house in Hamburg.

From 1983 to 1994 she headed the Hamburg constituency office of the CDU member of the Bundestag Volker Rühe .

Birgit Schnieber-Jastram comes from an old Hamburg family. Her mother Margareta Hunck-Jastram was also a member of the Hamburg Parliament for the CDU. She is married and has two kids.

Since 1981 she has been a member of the CDU and since 1992 deputy state chairwoman of the CDU in Hamburg.

From 1986 to 1994 Birgit Schnieber-Jastram was a member of the Hamburg parliament . From 1991 to 1994 she was chairman of the social committee and from 1993 to 1994 deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group . Since May 7th, 2008 she is again a member of the Hamburg citizenship. She is a member of the Europe and Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism Committee.

From 1994 until her resignation on November 7, 2001, she was a member of the German Bundestag .
