Hans-Joachim Siegfried "Jochen" Seeler (born August 9, 1930 in Lauenburg / Elbe ; † September 22, 2015 in Hamburg ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and author.

Life

Seeler, son of a pastor, moved to Hamburg with his family in 1933. After graduating from high school, he studied law in Kiel and Hamburg . He then worked as a research assistant at the Research Center for International Law at the University of Hamburg , a judge at the Hamburg Regional Court , clerk at the regional justice administration, as well as a councilor and senior church councilor at the Hamburg regional church office. Seeler was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD.

The political home of Seeler was in the SPD local association (district) Hamburg-Bramfeld -Süd (today Bramfeld-Farmsen). There he held various functions, including as district chairman. In 1966, Seeler was elected to the Hamburg parliament for the first time . A year later he became senator of the health department under the first mayor Herbert Weichmann . Under Peter Schulz , he switched to the judicial authority. After the state elections in 1974 , the Senate sent Seeler to the tax authorities , where he remained after Hans-Ulrich Klose was elected First Mayor. Seeler resigned his last dormant citizenship mandate in 1979 after he had been elected to the European Parliament , of which he was a member until 1989. On June 17, 1997, Seeler was elected a member of the College of the Elderly .

Hans-Joachim Seeler was married to Ingrid Seeler . You have four children. The son Christian Seeler (* 1958) is an actor and was director of the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater from 1996 to 2017 . His brother Joachim Seeler (* 1964) is a social democratic politician and member of the Hamburg parliament. He was related to Uwe Seeler .
