Political career

For several years, Gallina was a member of the Hamburg state board of the Socialist Youth in Germany - The Falcons . She joined the Greens in 2010 and became an assessor on the state board in 2011. 1 From 2011 to 2015 she was a member of the Eimsbüttel district assembly , from 2013 as parliamentary group leader.

Gallina ran as a direct candidate in the Eimsbüttel constituency in the 2013 federal election and the 2017 federal election without gaining a mandate. She ran for third place on the state list in the 2017 federal election, but was defeated by the Bergedorf district chairwoman Jennifer Jasberg .

In the 2015 state elections, Gallina ran for 15th place on the state list and won a direct mandate in the Lokstedt-Niendorf-Schnelsen constituency . She prevailed against Antje Möller in her candidacy for first place on the constituency list . In the 21st electoral term, she was a member of the Constitutional and District Committee, the Family, Children and Youth Committee, and the Transport Committee. She was the specialist spokesperson for her group for districts and families, children and youth. In the 2020 general election she ran for third place on the state list and obtained a direct mandate in the constituency of Rotherbaum-Harvestehude-Eimsbüttel-Ost . Her citizenship mandate has been suspended since her appointment to the Senate.

On May 30, 2015, Gallina was elected to succeed Katharina Fegebank as state chairwoman with 55.9 percent of the vote . She was re-elected on June 24, 2017 with 80 percent of the vote and on April 27, 2019 with 90 percent of the vote.

On May 30, 2020, Gallina was proposed by her party for the post of Senator for Justice and Consumer Protection in Senate Tschentscher II . The nomination attracted attention because she is not a lawyer, was not a member of the judiciary committee and the Hamburg public prosecutor's office was investigating her on suspicion of insult, defamation and defamation. On June 10, 2020, the Hamburg citizenship elected her together with the other members of the Senate with 83 out of 123 votes.

Political Initiatives

Anna Gallina was chairwoman of the Green parliamentary group in the study commission “Further strengthening child protection and children's rights”. The commission was set up in 2016 after several children were violently killed despite being looked after by the youth welfare office. The death of the children triggered a discussion about the work of the youth welfare offices and the question of how the children in Hamburg can be better protected. For two years, the commission put the organization and infrastructure of the Hamburg child and youth welfare system to the test and formulated 70 recommendations for action for better child protection.

Anna Gallina is also committed to the rescue of refugees from distress at sea and against the hindrance and criminalization of civilian sea rescue. In May 2017, for example, she took part in a two-week Sea-Eye rescue mission. and campaigned for Hamburg to declare itself a safe haven for refugees.

In order to better represent women in parliaments, Anna Gallina launched a debate in 2019 on the introduction of a parity law . The demand that the parties' electoral lists be filled with women and men alike was controversial among the citizens.

In connection with the Corona crisis, Anna Gallina is demanding relief for families and children in the form of Corona parental allowance analogous to the parental allowance after the birth of a child. Your proposal also includes protection against dismissal for parents.

Controversy

After the district assembly election in May 2019, Gallina raised allegations of Islamism against two Green members elected to the Hamburg-Mitte district assembly , who were therefore not accepted into the local Green parliamentary group. Four other Green members expressed their solidarity with the two and founded a parliamentary group with them, whereby the Greens parliamentary group lost its status as the largest parliamentary group to the SPD parliamentary group. The six people denied the allegations and suspected that Gallina's then partner Michael Osterburg, who was chairman of the Greens parliamentary group in the Hamburg-Mitte district assembly until the election and was no longer nominated for the election, is responsible for the allegations. In October 2019, the six people left the party and joined the SPD. The district associations of the SPD, CDU and FDP then formed a coalition. In November 2019, the two accused filed a criminal complaint against Gallina, her deputy Martin Bill and her former partner Michael Osterburg for insult, defamation and defamation. A preliminary investigation initiated by the public prosecutor's office was closed in July 2020 without an investigation because the criminal complaint was not filed within three months of the possible offense becoming known.
