Misbah Khan (born December 4, 1989 in Karachi , Pakistan ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). She has been the state chairwoman of the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens since November 2019 .

Life

Khan's maternal grandparents immigrated from Pakistan to Germany in the 1950s, while her grandfather completed his medical studies and specialist training in Heidelberg . The family has lived in Meckenheim in the Palatinate since 1973 . Khan's mother moved to Pakistan in 1988 and taught at a German school in Karachi. At the age of 4, Khan moved back to Meckenheim with her parents, where she still lives today. She completed her Abitur at the Kurfürst-Ruprecht-Gymnasium in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse . Khan studied political science and British studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Professionally, she worked at the State Center for Civic Education Rhineland-Palatinate , and since 2017 she has been working for the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Welfare in Rhineland-Palatinate in the Democracy Center on a prevention program against religious extremism.

Khan has been a member of the Greens since 2008 and was a member of the Green Youth from 2009 to 2017 . From 2009 to 2014, Khan was a member of the Deidesheim municipal council , of which she has been a member since 2019. From 2009 to 2011 and again from 2014 to 2016, Khan was a member of the state board of the Green Youth of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the Bad Dürkheim district association , she was a member of the Greens district board from 2010 to 2011 and again from 2012 to 2016. At the state level, she has been active as the spokesperson for the State Working Group on Peace & International Affairs since 2014. Khan ran in the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2016 at number 11 on the state list and stood as a direct candidate in the constituency of Neustadt-Speyer in the 2017 federal election . At the state delegate assembly in November 2019, Khan was elected as the state chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens.
