history
The community of Deidesheim was re-established in 1972, like all community communities in the then administrative district of Rheinhessen-Pfalz , on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate". Until then, the administrative structures originating from the Palatinate (Bavaria) (1816-1946) existed.
The town hall has been located in the so-called “Weinpalais” at Bahnhofstrasse 5, which today houses the “Tourist Information”, since the Deidesheim Association was founded. A new building was necessary due to capacity problems. The new community hall is located a few meters west of the Deidesheim train station . The foundation stone was laid in 1994 and inaugurated in 1996. The architect of the building was Gerhard Dürr from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse .

The Verbandsgemeinde took up administrative operations on January 1, 1973; the mayor was elected on September 7, 1972. The CDU had envisaged the mayor of Deidesheim, Norbert Oberhettinger, as a candidate, but he waived. Instead, Stefan Gillich ran for the CDU and was elected mayor. After almost 25 years in office, Gillich resigned in 1997. Marion Magin (FWG) was elected as his successor on October 12, 1997, and took office on January 1, 1998.
Magin was confirmed in office in 2005 with 57.6% of the votes, but in November 2011 she was voted out again with 81% of the votes cast before the end of her second term of office. Her successor was Theo Hoffmann (CDU), he received around 84% of the vote in the election on April 22, 2012. As Hoffmann's successor, Peter Lubenau (CDU) was elected on March 13, 2016 with 76.9% of the vote.
coat of arms
The coat of arms of the Verbandsgemeinde is divided into two parts: in the right field there is a white cross on a blue background; it stands for the Hochstift Speyer , to which Deidesheim, Niederkirchen, Forst and Ruppertsberg belonged for a long time. In the left field the coat of arms shows the Palatinate lion and a bunch of grapes; the Palatinate lion symbolizes the Electoral Palatinate , to which Meckenheim belonged for a long time, and the grape symbolizes the importance of viticulture for all five communities. A border around the coat of arms like this one is typical for that of a union community . The right to use this coat of arms was granted on December 3, 1982.
Local partnership
Since 2002 there has been a partnership with the city of Byczyna in the Opole Voivodeship in Upper Silesia .
