The community of the association includes the city of Freinsheim and seven independent local communities , the administrative seat is the eponymous city of Freinsheim.

history

The collective municipality Freinsheim was re-established in 1972 like all association municipalities in the then administrative region Rheinhessen-Pfalz on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate". Until then, the administrative structures originating from the Bavarian Palatinate (1816–1946) existed.

mayor

The full-time mayor of the Freinsheim community is Jürgen Oberholz (FWG). In the runoff election on January 31, 2016, he was elected for eight years with a share of 52.1% of the vote, after none of the original four applicants had achieved a sufficient majority in the direct election on January 17, 2016. Oberholz is the successor to Wolfgang Quante (SPD), who retired early for health reasons.

The municipality's coat of arms is quartered. At the top right on a light blue background, armed and tongued in red, there is a silver eagle turned to the right, at the top left on a golden background there is a silver key with its tip pointing down to the left. At the bottom right there is a bunch of blue grapes on a golden background, at the bottom left on a black background, armed and speared in red, a golden lion turned to the right.

The eagle symbolizes the lineage of the Leininger family , the key the former prince-bishopric of Worms , the lion the Palatinate . The blue grape shows that in the Freinsheim area, the focus was early on growing red grape varieties , which take up almost half of the area under vines .

A partnership has existed since 1995 with the rural community - at that time still an administrative association -  Ilmtal-Weinstrasse .
