history
Romans, Middle Ages and early modern times
The area of today's Kallstadt was on the Roman road , which connected Altenstadt in today's Alsace with the Rhineland, and was already a flourishing cultural landscape in Roman times. Numerous archaeological finds prove a settlement by merchants, former legionaries and also wine growers from approx. 79 BC. BC to at least 383 AD. Today's place has its origins in the settlement of a Franconian clan, which originated around 500 and whose head Chagilo was named after. The Hertlingshausen monastery and later the Stephansfeld monastery had properties in the village until the 16th century.
The place is first mentioned in 824 as Cagelenstat . In 985 he was the victim of the Sali church robbery . Originally an imperial village , it later came to the county of Pfeffingen (Homburg) and was given to the Monfort knights from 1321 and to the views of Lichtenberg from 1451 to around 1551. After that, until the end of the 18th century, Kallstadt belonged to the Leiningian estate as an Electoral Palatinate fief .
Since the 19th century
During the First Coalition War , the Left Bank of the Rhine was occupied by the French in 1794 . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Kallstadt was incorporated into the canton of Dürkheim in the Donnersberg department and the seat of its own mairie , to which Leistadt also belonged. In 1815 the place had 680 inhabitants.
As a result of the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the area first became part of Austria in June of the same year , and in 1816 it was ceded to the Kingdom of Bavaria on the basis of a state treaty . Under the Bavarian administration, Kallstadt belonged from 1818 to the Landkommissariat Neustadt im Rheinkreis ; from this the district office of Neustadt emerged. Emigrants were not necessarily the poorest as elsewhere, but comparatively ambitious individuals striving for advancement.
In 1902, Kallstadt moved to the newly created Dürkheim district office before it was reintegrated into its Neustadt counterpart in 1931. From 1939 the place was part of the district of Neustadt . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the Palatinate administrative district in the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place changed on June 7, 1969 to the newly created district of Bad Dürkheim . Three years later it was assigned to the also newly formed community of Freinsheim .
Simone Wendel, who lives in Kallstadt, took up the fact that the paternal grandparents of US President Donald Trump, who has been in office since 2017, came from the town back in 2014 in her documentary Kings of Kallstadt . Therefore, the media also treated the site internationally in the course of the US presidential election campaign in 2016 .
