The German Wine Route Marathon is a marathon in Bockenheim that has been held every two years since 1998 in late March or early April. It is organized by the Bad Dürkheim district and hosted by TSG Grünstadt and TSV Bockenheim . A half marathon has been part of the program since 2002 .

route

The start and finish of both routes is the house of the German Wine Route in Bockenheim. First it goes south on the B 271 out of the village, then via Asselheim into the center of Grünstadt . From there it goes on to Kleinkarlbach , where the paths separate. Half marathon runners make a loop through Kleinkarlbach and Sausenheim and then return to the starting point of the route, while marathon runners face the first big climb to Bobenheim am Berg . Via Weisenheim am Berg and Leistadt it goes to Bad Dürkheim with a view of the Haardt in the west . There it goes past the giant barrel to the center, then through the spa gardens and past the graduation tower in an easterly direction to the intersection of the B 271 and B 37 . From there it goes north of the B 37 to Ungstein . From there it continues on the German Wine Route , which is identical here with the B 271, north to Kallstadt and from there via the second major ascent to Herxheim am Berg . Via Dackenheim and Kirchheim to Grünstadt, from where the route is identical to the way there.

The route is quite profiled with 495 meters of altitude for the marathon and 240 meters of altitude for the half marathon and consists partly of roads completely closed to traffic, partly of asphalted cycle paths and farm roads through the vineyards of the region. It can be visited free of charge by bus the day before.

Also included in the entry fee is participation in the pasta party the day before, which is part of the large supporting program in the festival tent in Bockenheim, and a wine present. As in the Trollinger Marathon , Ahrathon and the Médoc Marathon , wine is served alongside the usual drinks for athletes. In Kallstadt, Palatinate Saumagen is served with the Riesling called Kallstadter Saumagen from this locality.
