German Road Races
German Road Races (GRR) eV is an interest group of currently 61 large running organizers based in Berlin. Members are many organizers of marathons and road races, which are mainly held in Germany . Events that are held in Austria , Switzerland , Italy , Turkey and the Czech Republic are also members.
structure
The association cooperates with the Swiss counterpart Swiss Runners and also with the organizers from neighboring Poland.
The objectives include promoting long-distance running in general and road running in particular, improving the way road running is presented to the public, maintaining quality standards, coordinating common interests and working with the German Athletics Association .
The association initiated the chip time measurement in Germany and the accurate route measurement with the Jones counter .
The GRR Young Talent Cup serves to promote young talent. In order to motivate young people in the running area, GRR annually awards the GRR Young Talent Award. In addition, successful trainers in the running area are awarded, as are long-term GRR organizers. In addition, innovative running events are particularly honored, as well as personalities from the running sector for their successful life's work.
The road races magazine, which has been published annually since 2008, offers an overview of dates and an editorial section with special topics as well as the presentation of selected running events.
The association was launched on October 30, 1995 by the organizers of the four major German city marathons in Berlin , Hamburg , Frankfurt and Munich . Founding member and first chairman is the long-time boss of the Berlin Marathon and member of the board of directors of the world association AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) - now AIMS consultant, Horst Milde . The five other board members since 2016 are: Wilfried Raatz (Darmstadt), Karsten Schölermann (Hamburg), Sascha Wiczynski (Salzkotten), Michael Brinkmann (Münster), Heinfried Maschmeyer (Drebber).
