Leverkusen half marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leverkusen Half Marathon is a half marathon in Leverkusen that has been held in June 2001 and is now one of the largest half marathons in Germany. The organizers are Sportpark Leverkusen and SportBund Leverkusen eV, organizers of TuS 05 Quettingen eV Since 2006, the program has included a 10 km run and, since 2014, a 5 km run.

Route

The start is in Opladen on Kölner Straße, past the St. Remigius Church and initially leads in an arc over the NaturGut Ophoven , Quettingen , the Gezelinkapelle and Morsbroich Castle to Alkenrath . From there it follows the course of the Dhünn westwards to the BayArena and to Wiesdorf and Bürrig . Along the Reuschenberg wildlife park , it goes back to Opladen to the destination on Kölner Straße. The 10 km run starts at the Kurt Rieß facility at the BayArena and immediately afterwards ends in the second part of the half marathon route. In 2016 there were two special features of the route. On the one hand, the route at km 2 no longer ran along NaturGut Ophoven and the Opladen outdoor swimming pool, but went towards Stauffenbergstrasse and Werkstättenstrasse in the new New Railway City of Opladen and there past the Funkenturm of the KG Altstadtfunken to Quettingen. On the other hand, it went through the BayArena for the first time at around km 10, which was due to this year's repair work on the Dhünnbrücke on Bismarckstrasse. The timing is done with the Chrono Track System in the start number.

Due to a mistake in the lead vehicle and an inattention on the part of the marshals, the runners took the wrong path in the half marathon in 2005, which resulted in the distance being shortened by approx. 900 meters.
