Bürrig is a district of the independent city of Leverkusen in southern North Rhine-Westphalia .

history
The first documented mention of the parish church of St. Stephen and the place Bürrig took place in 1147. In 1280 received Graf Adolf V. von Berg the patronage over the parish . In 1399 the citizens of Cologne attacked Reuschenberg Castle . In 1477 the Reuschenberger mill was rebuilt. Wonderfully country belonged Bürrig since the Middle Ages to the Duchy of Berg and was subordinate to the Office Miselohe . The Bürrig parish also included the Neuenhof and Schaafstall residential areas and the Reuschenberg manor. From 1806 to 1813, the place belonged to the Napoleonic Grand Duchy of Berg and in 1808 was assigned to the canton of Opladen and the Dusseldorf district in the Rhine department.
1815 came Bürrig to the Kingdom of Prussia and in 1816 the new county Opladen , 1819 the district Solingen in the administrative district of Dusseldorf slammed shut. The municipality of Bürrig was subordinate to the administration of the mayor's office Opladen and in 1832 had 521 inhabitants. In the 19th century, industrialization began in Bürrig as well . The construction of the train station in Küppersteg on the new Cöln-Mindener Railway in 1845 was important for this. In 1860 several explosives companies were established in Bürrig. After the town elevation of Opladen (1858), the mayor's office was renamed “Opladen-Land” in 1859, in 1889 in Küppersteg mayor's office and in 1920 in Wiesdorf's mayor's office. In 1921 the communities of Bürrig and Wiesdorf merged to form the city of Wiesdorf. This was integrated into the newly formed city of Leverkusen in 1930.
