Hendrik Pfeiffer (born March 18, 1993 in Düsseldorf , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete who specializes in long-distance , cross and marathons . Pfeiffer studies journalism at the TU Dortmund .
Athletic career
Hendrik Pfeiffer was originally interested in football . In order to improve his stamina further, he joined the LAZ Rhede athletics club while playing soccer . A year later he finally changed the sport. He developed his ability to run to longer and longer distances. Until reaching the age limit in October 2015, Pfeiffer was a member of the NRW junior elite team of the Sportstiftung NRW .
On April 24, 2016, Hendrik Pfeiffer made his debut on the marathon distance in Düsseldorf and met the standard for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro straight away in a time of 2:13:11 h . But just a few weeks later Pfeiffer had to give up at the European Championships in Amsterdam due to health problems - like Arne Gabius - at the half marathon . He and Gabius suffered the same fate: Both were nominated for the Olympic Games, but had to forego participation because their health did not improve. It is not his "philosophy of running, throwing in pain pills," said Pfeiffer. For him, Julian wing moved up as a participant.
In October 2017 he won the Cologne Marathon in his second race over the marathon distance and undercut the qualification standard for the European Athletics Championships 2018 in Berlin. Hendrik Pfeiffer was nominated by the DLV for the European Athletics Championships in 2018 , but had to cancel his participation as he did at the 2016 Olympic Games due to heel problems.
At the Vivawest Marathon 2018, the then 25-year-old set a Guinness world record “Fastest half marathon in a suit (male)” to draw attention to the possibility of combining professional sport and professional life as part of a dual career.
Hendrik Pfeiffer starts for TV Wattenscheid 01 and was previously at LAZ Rhede . He is part of the perspective squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .
