Sports Foundation NRW

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sportstiftung NRW is a North Rhine-Westphalian foundation for the promotion of young talent in competitive sport . Today there is at least one similar institution in every federal state ( there are two in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt ) that differ slightly in terms of their profile (funding only top-level or school and mass sports). The foundation's assets were contributed by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

The aim of the Sportstiftung NRW is to enable young athletes from NRW to take part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as in World and European Championships. The focus is on supporting the transition from the state squad to the federal squad, so that there is no gap when athletes are no longer entitled to state funding, but have not yet achieved the appropriate management status for financial services from Deutsche Sporthilfe or similar institutions.

history

It was established on December 12, 2000 as a foundation under civil law. On December 21, 2000, approval was given by the Minister of the Interior. The foundation capital amounts to approx. 6.33 million euros.

For the first time in London 2012, participation prizes were granted for Olympic and Paralympic NRW athletes. advancement

The funding of around 3.9 million euros per year comes from the budget of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The funding objective is a high participation and medal quota as well as a "renewal quota" at the Olympics and Paralympics for NRW.

In 2017, the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia initiated the unbundling of the areas of responsibility of the state sports association and the sports foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia. As a result, the sports foundation is now concentrating on individual support in Olympic and Paralympic sports. The Sports Foundation awards u. a. Rewards for the participants in the Olympic and Paralympic Games sponsored by it in the amount of 3,500 euros.

The funding volume amounts to approx. 65 million euros in the funding period 2001 to 2019. Funding is provided for most summer and winter sports for the Olympics and Paralympics.

The twin career is a component of the dual career in competitive sports. In a twin career, athletic and professional careers run parallel rather than one after the other. Sports activities, studies or training as well as presence phases in the company are integrated into an individual, holistic and long-term life plan. In the “Business & Competitive Sport” community, the Sportstiftung NRW bundles around 100 commercial companies for projects that help top athletes shape their careers.
