Marion Rodewald (born December 24, 1976 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) is a German hockey player .

Athletic career

Rodewald began her career at the Kahlenberger HTC in Mülheim. From there she moved to HTC Uhlenhorst Mülheim , with whom she became German youth champion for girls in 1990. From 1992 to 2004 she played at Club Raffelberg in Duisburg . Here the central defender made the leap into the national team and since 1997 she has been a permanent member of the national hockey team (A-team).

In 1998 she finished 3rd at the World Championships in Utrecht. 7th place at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney was followed by the bronze medal at the 2003 European Championships in Barcelona.

2004 Summer Olympics

From 2003 to 2009 she was the captain of the German women's national hockey team . With her she won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . Rodewald has been playing for Rot-Weiß Köln in the Bundesliga since 2004 .

For winning the 2004 gold medal, she received the silver laurel leaf on March 16, 2005.

Rodewald studied architecture for two semesters in Dortmund , then sports science at the German Sport University Cologne and wrote her thesis on the topic of cancer aftercare.

Marion Rodewald has been an athlete's representative on the board of the Sportstiftung NRW since 2005 and since 2006 also athletes spokeswoman for the German Hockey Association, a member of the advisory board for active players in the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and on the supervisory board of the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation.

Marion Rodewald is the athlete spokesperson for the online reporting system called "ADAMS" on the Board of Trustees of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). Since 2009 she has also been a member of the European Athletes Commission.

Marion Rodewald married her long-term partner on December 22, 2006 and she lives in Frechen-Königsdorf .
