The KTHC Stadion Rot-Weiss ( Cologne Tennis and Hockey Club Stadion Rot-Weiss), located in the Cologne city forest near what is now known as the Rheinenergiestadion , is one of the largest clubs of its kind in Cologne.
history
In 1906 hockey began in Cologne. Some former soccer players founded the Cölner Hockey Club in 1906 . The Rheinische Hockey Club was founded in 1910 by mostly business students. Since hockey was still unknown at that time, both clubs were not viable, so that in 1913 they merged to form the Cölner Rheinischer Hockey Club .
In 1920 there was a disagreement. One group founded the KKHT Schwarz-Weiß Köln , the other group, under the leadership of Arthur Kaminski , the Rot-Weiss Club . The club later merged with the Stadion Club Grün-Weiß to form the KTHC Stadion Rot-Weiss .
The club member, the Cologne architect Hanns Koerfer , designed the interior of the clubhouse after the war (1949). He was also responsible for the characteristic new buildings from the 1950s, which were constantly being expanded and renovated and restored in 1996 by the member of the Board of Management responsible for building, the architect Kaspar Kraemer , to match their original condition.
tennis
In 1931 the club provided Cilly Aussem, the first German Wimbledon winner . Another figurehead of the club since 1936 was Hans "Hanne" Nüsslein , who became three times world champion in professional tennis in 1933, '35 and '37.
To thank and commemorate be a member of the club in 1980 founded the Hanne Nüsslein- Foundation to promote young tennis since the international open is U 14 Hanne Nüsslein- Cup played.
In 2014 the 1st men's team was promoted to the 1st tennis Bundesliga . In 2017 the team competed with Benoit Paire , Fabio Fognini , Andreas Seppi , Dustin Brown , Oscar Otte and Andreas Mies, among others .
