The Euro Hockey League 2012/2013 was the sixth season of the European Hockey Federation discharged Euro Hockey League , the most important European competition for club teams in hockey . The competition was played in a total of four tournaments with group and knockout phases. The mode hadn't changed since previous years. In eight preliminary round groups of three teams each, the two group winners qualified for the round of 16. The preliminary rounds were played with twelve teams at two tournaments from October 12-14, 2012 in Barcelona and October 26-28 in East Grinstead . The eighth and quarter-finals were played between March 29 and April 1, 2013 in Amsterdam's Wagener Stadium . The final four took place over Pentecost in Bloemendaal . There the host HC Bloemendaal won the competition for the second time after 2009 with a 2-0 in the final over the Belgian representative KHC Dragons .

Attendees

A total of 24 teams from the 12 best-placed nations in the EHF 3-year ranking qualify for the EHL competition. All other nations starting at the European Cup send their two participating teams into the Trophy and Challenge competitions. The nations on ranks 1 to 4 of the EHF 3-year ranking represent three clubs, those on positions 5 to 8 two and those from 9 to 12 one for the EHL field.

Five clubs qualified for each of the six EHL draws: HC Bloemendaal from the Netherlands, Atlètic Terrassa from Spain, Reading HC from England, HC Dinamo Kazan from Russia and WKS Grunwald Posen from Poland. With the German representative Berliner HC, the Royal Leopold Club from Belgium and the all-Irish representative Lisnagarvey, three clubs are making their debut at the EHL. Thirteen of the 24 teams also played in the EHL last year. Defending champion and record winner Uhlenhorster HC could not qualify as fourth in Germany. Belgium is allowed to provide three teams for the first time at Spain's expense. France got a second starting place again. Scotland also competes with two teams after a one-year absence from the EHL. Belarus is also represented again. Ireland and Poland each lost their second place on the grid. In contrast to the previous year, Ukraine and Switzerland are no longer included.

EuroHockey Club Trophy

The Euro Hockey Club Trophy took place from May 17-20, 2013 in the Austrian capital Vienna. It formed the first substructure for the Euro Hockey League. In addition to the title, the clubs also played for points for their national association in the EHF 3-year evaluation, which determines the number of clubs in a nation for the European Cup competitions.

The starting places for the Trophy were awarded on the one hand after the EHF 3-year ranking. Ukraine and Switzerland did not get a starting place in the EHL , so their national champions competed in the Trophy. The second representatives from Ireland and Poland were also relegated from the EHL and started in the 2013 Trophy.

On the other hand, due to good results, last year's trophy participants were allowed to play champions of Belarus and Scotland in the EHL . Scotland collected enough points to even start with two clubs in the EHL. The second representative of France also rose to the EHL.

The dovetailing with the third-class Euro Hockey Challenge I took place via a promotion and relegation regulation. The second starter from Switzerland and the Welsh champions only achieved the last two places seven and eight in last year's trophy and thus relegated to the challenge. Instead, the winners of the promotion games at the Challenge, the second starter from Wales and Scotland, moved into the trophy. Since, as mentioned, Scotland has two clubs in the EHL, the second Scottish representative slips straight through to the EHL.

The three remaining representatives remained unchanged from the previous year: second European starter from Austria and the two representatives from Italy.
