The sports association Arminen in Vienna is one of the oldest Austrian hockey clubs . The Arminen achieved their greatest sporting success with second place in the European Indoor Cup of the national champions in Lille 2007. The Arminen club area, the Waldstadion in Vienna's 17th district was equipped with the latest generation of artificial turf in 2009.
history
After the fall of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, a group of young people got together in order to find compensation for the life changes that were so fundamental at the time by cultivating sport. So on April 24, 1919, the sports association of Catholic-German Academics Arminen was founded .
In addition to hockey, there were sections for tourism, football, fencing and rowing. The water sports enthusiasts soon became self-employed; The Arminen-Straße on the Old Danube in the 22nd district of Vienna, named after the rowers of the Arminen, still bears witness to their fame.
In the late thirties there was a lot of improvisation, as players sometimes came from half of Europe to the championship games. Three Viennese hockey clubs had to stop playing: the all-round hockey club, the Hakoah and the VFB (Association for Movement Games). In 1938 the "Catholic-German academics" were a thing of the past. The new club name was Sportvereinigung Arminen Wien . From that year on, the Armines only ran hockey, the other sections were dissolved.
The second AV Arminen team plays under the name Westend for men and women.
