news

The EHL announced some rule changes on July 17, 2018.

Goal point system

The field test with a new goal point system from last season will no longer be continued. As in all other EHF competitions, every goal will count again. Double points for field goals are no longer awarded. As it claims, the EHL is responding to criticism from players, fans and referees.

Reduction in the number of participants from 2019/20

The EHL announced that from the 2019/20 season the competition would be held with only 20 instead of 24 participants. Which nations or ranks lose places in the 3-year ranking was not disclosed. This step is a further reduction of the competition following the cancellation of the second preliminary round tournament in 2014.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round took place from October 5th to 7th, 2018. The preliminary round was held in the Pau Negre Stadium in Barcelona . The participants were the worst-placed clubs in the participating associations. In the draw, the participants from the associations with three clubs ( Netherlands , Germany , Belgium and Spain ) were top-placed in the four groups of three. The regulations stipulate that every win brings 5 points, every draw 2 points and every defeat, with a maximum of two goals difference, one point. In the end, the first in the table qualified for the round of 16.

KO phase

Oranje-Rood Stadium.

Due to overlapping with the Hockey Pro League in May or June, the knockout games, which are usually played in two tournaments, are merged into one at Easter. This isn't the first time this has happened. Most recently, all KO rounds were played around Easter in the 2014/15 season. The venue for the event, which will take place from April 17th to 22nd, is the Oranje-Rood hockey club in Eindhoven.
