Experimental rules

In the Euro Hockey League, new rules are tried out again and again before they are also introduced in the national leagues and other international competitions after testing. The own goal was introduced in the 2009/2010 season : This means that there is no need for a striker to touch the ball in the shooting circle so that a goal can be decided. It does not matter from now on whether an attacking or defending player or goalkeeper touches the ball in the shooting circle. The first own goal in hockey history was scored by the Spanish international Xavier Ribas (Athlètic Terassa), who in the preliminary round match against Reading HC deflected a cross outside of the shooting circle into his own goal.

EuroHockey Club Trophy

The Euro Hockey Trophy was held from 2nd to 5th April 2010 in Cardiff, Welsh. It forms the first substructure for the Euro Hockey League. In addition to the title, the clubs also play for points for their national association in the EHF 3-year rating, which determines the number of clubs in a nation for the European Cup competitions.
