The Cardiff & Met Hockey Club (2008–2011 Cardiff & UWIC Hockey Club) is a traditional hockey club in the Welsh capital Cardiff . The club was created in its current form through the merger of Cardiff HC and UWIC HC in 2008. The club, playing in black shorts and light blue jerseys, maintains seven men's teams and two women's teams. The men's team is next to local rivals Whitchurch, one of two Welsh teams that are incorporated in the English league system. You play in the second rate Conference West. At the same time, they also take part in competitions in Wales. The club represented Wales at the EuroHockey Club Trophy in 2013 .

Roath Hockey Club was founded in November 1896 as one of the first Cardiff hockey clubs. After a few months the name was changed to Cardiff Hockey Club . The club quickly established itself as a powerful club in South Wales. In 1898 a second team could be formed. In 1901, G. Howell became the first Cardiff HC player in a long line to be called up for the Welsh national team. The club soon left Roath Park and played on the Llandaff Fields or the Whitchurch Polo Fields. In 1904 the first men's team in Wales remained undefeated. Bert Turnbull was the first CHCer to take part in the Olympic Games . At the 1908 Games in London, he guarded the gate for Wales.

The club had to move back in 1926 and became part of the Kingsholm Recreation Club in Rhiwbina in the north of Cardiff. At least the blue and red striped jersey colors could still be used. At the beginning of the Second World War there were two men and one women team. A parallel development began in 1920 when the Cardiff United women's hockey club was founded, which did more badly than well until 1927. Then he became part of the Cardiff Athletic Club and started under the name Cardiff Athletic Ladies HC . After the Second World War, the Cardiff Athletic Club decided to add men's hockey to their program and Cardiff HC left Kingsholm and has since played under the umbrella of the Athletic Club, while the women's section stayed with Kingsholm. The Cardiff Athletic Ladies could not be reactivated after the Second World War either, and a ladies team did not join the club again until 1985. Over the years the club grew incessantly, a second team was founded as early as 1946, and a third team was formed in 1951 as the first of a Welsh club. Teams four, five and six followed in 1957, 1974 and 1976.

Since the introduction of competitive games in 1965, the club has won the Welsh Cup nine times, the South Wales Cup six times and the Welsh Shield once. He was also seven times champion of the Premier Division of the South Wales League. In the hall, the club is a 14-time cup winner.

University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC)

Since the merger of the Cardiff Hockey Club with the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) , the club has been heavily influenced by the seven men's teams of students. In addition to the club games on the weekend, there are also games for the university on Wednesdays as part of the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) . UWIC Hockey has two men's and three women's teams who play their games on the Cyncoed Campus. The first men's team has advanced into the Premier South League after several promotions.
