Euro Hockey League 2016/17

The Euro Hockey League 2016/17 was the 10th season of the European Hockey Federation discharged Euro Hockey League , the most important European competition for club teams in hockey. The competition was played out in a total of three tournaments with group and knockout phases.

Attendees

A total of 24 teams from the 12 best-placed nations in the EHF 3-year ranking qualified for the EHL competition. All other nations starting at the European Cup sent their two participating teams to the Trophy and Challenge competitions. The nations on ranks 1-4 of the EHF 3-year ranking provided three clubs, those on positions 5-8 two and those from 9 to 12 one for the field of the EHL.

Two clubs qualified for each of the ten editions of the EHL: HC Dinamo Kazan from Russia and WKS Grunwald Posen from Poland. With Holcombe HC, only one club had qualified that had not been there before. Although HC Oranje-Rood is technically a new club in the EHL, it emerged from the former EHL winner Oranje Zwart and the EMHC . The following teams take part:

Preliminary round

The preliminary round took place from October 7th to 9th. The host was the Banbridge Hockey Club from Banbridge , United Kingdom . The participants were the worst-placed clubs in the participating associations. In the draw, the participants from the associations with three clubs ( Netherlands , Germany , Belgium and Spain ) were top-placed in the four groups of three. The regulations stipulate that every win brings 5 ​​points, every draw 2 points and every defeat, with a maximum of two goals difference, one point. In the end, the first in the table qualify for the round of 16.

Round of 16 and quarter finals

Round of 16 Dragons-Brussels

On October 14, 2016 it was announced that the host of the eighth and quarter finals was HC Oranje-Rood . The tournament took place from April 14 to 17, 2017, in the south of Eindhoven , the Netherlands . It was also announced that the association, the city and the province of North Brabant are entering into a three-year partnership. This partnership determines Eindhoven as the venue for the eighth and quarter finals for this period. The draw was announced on November 18, 2016. The schedule followed on December 1, 2016. The first-ranked clubs of the nations, which occupy places 1–8 in the nation ranking, were set for the draw.

Semifinals and finals

On January 18, the EHL announced the KHC Dragons as the organizer of the semifinals and the finals. For the second time in a row, the Final Four did not take place in the Netherlands. The semi-finals took place on June 3rd and the game for third place as well as the final took place on Whit Sunday, June 4th 2017 in Brasschaat , Belgium .

EuroHockey Club Trophy

The Eurhockey Club Trophy 2017 was held in Elektrostal , Russia , from June 2nd to 5th, 2017. In addition to the trophy title, the teams compete for points for the EHF country ranking, which calculates the number of starting places in the Euro Hockey League.
