Puconci ( Slovenian [ˈpuːtsɔntsi]; in older sources also Pucinci , Hungarian Battyánd , Prekmurian Püconci , German  Putzendorf ) is a municipality and a town in the historic Prekmurje region in Slovenia . In 2016, Puconci was awarded the honorary title of “ Reformation City of Europe ” by the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe .

The municipality has the central portion of the hill and grave state of Goricko and claimed in the southern area of play already on the wide of Ledava and Mur formed plains of Ravensko . history

Both the village and the parish of Puconci can look back on a long Evangelical-Lutheran tradition. Numerous writers who shaped Prekmurian literature - many of them Lutheran clergy - worked here (see the section on personalities ). The Lutheran church in the center of the village was built as the first Lutheran church in the Prekmurje region in 1784 and redesigned in 1909.

Puconci is one of the few Slovenian parishes with a majority of Lutheran residents. In recognition of Puconci’s role in the history of the Reformation, the community bears the honorary title “ Reformation City of Europe ”.

The municipality has 6,256 inhabitants (as of 2008) and is made up of 23 localities. The official Hungarian exonyms from 1890 are given in brackets after today's place names .
