Velika Polana (Hungarian Nagyföld , Eng . Devil's Hole ) is a municipality in the Prekmurje region in Slovenia .

1,520 people live in the total community, which consists of the three villages of Brezovica, Mala Polana and Velika Polana. The main town of Velika Polena has 914 inhabitants. The municipality is located in an area with swampy lowland meadows near the borders with Hungary and Croatia .

Velika Polena was awarded the title European Stork Village in 1999 by the Euronatur Foundation . A stork has been depicted in the municipality's new coat of arms since February 17, 2005.

Worth seeing are the Sacred Heart Church and the memorial house with the preserved study of the Slovenian writer Miško Kranjec.
