Miško Kranjec
Miško Kranjec (born September 15, 1908 in Velika Polana , Kingdom of Hungary , † June 8, 1983 in Ljubljana , SFR Yugoslavia ) was a Slovenian-speaking writer.
Life
Kranjec came from the Übermur region ( Prekmurje ) when it still belonged to Hungary, and was intended by his parents to be a priest. He studied Slavic Studies in Ljubljana , but did not graduate. In the 1930s he was a member of the editorial team of the communist party newspaper Ljudska pravica and was also a politically active functionary. During the Second World War he was active in the resistance and belonged to the partisans . After the war, Kranjec was a member of the Federal Assembly of Yugoslavia and held various cultural and political functions in the Tito state.
Works
Kranjec is regarded as a narrator who, after first attempts to gain a foothold in Slovenian Catholic literature, turned to socialist realism . In this sense, he was very productive as an emphatically political author. He wrote a large number of novels and short stories, but also autobiographical works, all of which revolve around political and current problems such as war, resistance and revolution. He is considered to be the most important representative of his home region Prekmurje in Slovenian literature. The few translations into German come from the Austrian writer Josef Friedrich Perkonig .
