Andrid ( Hungarian Érendréd or Endréd ) is a municipality in the Satu Mare district in north-western Romania .
geography
The municipality includes the villages of Andrid (administrative center, 1321 inhabitants), Dindeşti (800) and Irina (560). It is located in the southeast of the district in the Someș Lowland on the banks of the River Ier , a tributary of the Barcău , 24 km south of Carei and 59 km southwest of the district capital Satu Mare . In the west the municipality borders on Hungary .
Specialty
Andrid has been a European stork village since 1997 . In 1997, after various protective measures, 37 breeding pairs were counted, compared to 17 in 1984. Nests are mainly on electricity pylons, and foraging takes place on the extensive wet meadows ; the population has increased significantly since 1994. A stork festival is celebrated at the beginning of July each year.
