Fienen ( Romanian Foieni , Hungarian Mezőfény ) is a place in the Satu Mare district in northwest Romania .
Location of the village
In the northwest, the municipality of Fienen borders on Hungary. Neighboring places on Romanian territory are the city of Carei (Groß-Karol) and the places Urziceni (Schönthal) and Sanislău . The distance to the district capital Satu Mare (Sathmar) is about forty kilometers.
The village is located on the Valea Neagră stream .
history
Even before the colonization with Sathmar Swabians , there was a settlement on site. However, this was destroyed several times (e.g. in the course of the Tatar invasions ) and was uninhabited around 1700.
The first German settlers arrived in Fienen around 1720.
population
The 2002 census revealed the following ethnic composition of the population: 55.5% were Hungarians , 41.6% Germans , 2.8% Romanians , 0.1% Ukrainians . In 2016, 1840 people were registered in Foieni, of whom 1266 were Magyars, 384 Romanian Germans, 104 Roma and 69 Romanians.
politics
The local council in Fienen consists of 11 councils and in 2016 consists of seven members of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania , two members of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania and one member each from the PNL and the independent candidate Attila Békési.

The place is on the national road DN 19 from Sathmar coming from Satu Mare . In addition, a district road (drum județean) leads 'DJ' to Carei, six kilometers away.
