Buzica (until 1948 Slovak "Buzita"; Hungarian Buzita ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,217 (December 31, 2019). It is located in Okres Košice-okolie , a part of Košický kraj .

geography

The municipality is located about 24 kilometers southwest of Košice and directly on the border with Hungary . The almost 20 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Košická kotlina basin and the hilly Bodvianska pahorkatina (Hungarian Cserehát ) adjoining it to the south . The source of the Ružový potok , a small stream, which flows into the Ida , a tributary of the Bodva , in the north of the municipality . The center of the village is at an altitude of 212  m nm , the highest point in the municipality is marked by Ortáš at 319 m above sea level on the Hungarian border.

Neighboring municipalities of Buzica are Cestice in the north, Veľká Ida in the northeast, Nižný Lánec and Perín-Chym in the east, Hernádpetri and Pusztaradvány in the southeast, Hernádpetri, Pusztaradvány and Szemere in the south and Rešica in the west.

history

In 1262 the village was first mentioned in writing as Villa Bozita . In 1910, 894 people lived in Buzita, 891 of whom were Hungarian-speaking. Until the Treaty of Trianon the village belonged to Abaúj-Torna County in the Kingdom of Hungary, from then on Buzica / Buzita belonged to Czechoslovakia like all the Hungarian-speaking places in Abaúj-Torna County . After the First Vienna Arbitration , these communities were once again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the results of the 2001 census, Buzica had 1142 inhabitants, including those

  • 63.49% Hungary,
  • 32.14% Slovaks,
  • 1.49% Roma.

83.5% of the residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church.

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture still plays an important role in Buzica. In the wide, canal-crisscrossed plain in the north, mainly feed and grain are grown, in the south, in addition to fruit-growing areas, there are also isolated vines on sheltered slopes.

The residents work in agriculture or commute to industrial plants in and around Košice . With a post office, a grocery store and a pharmacy, Buzica is a local supply center for smaller communities in the neighborhood. Buzica is also the school location.

The road from Rešica to Kechnec runs through the municipality on the I / 68 / E 71 . Other roads connect Buzica with the cities of Moldava nad Bodvou and Košice. At the southern exit of the town there is a road border crossing to Hungary. The nearest train station is in Komárovce on the Košice-Barca-Rožňava railway, seven kilometers away.
