Veľká Ida (Hungarian Nagyida ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with 3867 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

location

It is located in the Košická kotlina basin on the Ida river , on the border with the city of Košice ( Šaca district ; the center is 15 km away). The place has a train station on the Zvolen – Košice railway line .

The environment is negatively influenced by the adjacent steelworks U.S Steel Košice .

In addition to the main town, the town of Gomboš ( Gombospuszta in Hungarian ) also belongs to the municipality .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1251. In the Middle Ages, the village had a castle (so-called Gypsy Castle), which was built between 1411 and 1414 as a fortress against the Hussites . In 1557 the castle was destroyed.

The community in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1919 , after which it came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration , it belonged again to Hungary from 1938 to 1945 and has been part of today's Slovakia since 1993.
