Moldava nad Bodvou (until 1927 in Slovak "Moldava"; German Moldau an der Bodwa , Hungarian Szepsi ) is a city in eastern Slovakia in Okres Košice-okolie .
history
The city was founded in the 12th century by German settlers (first mentioned in 1255 as villa curriferorum ZEKERES , first mentioned in 1329 as Moldava ). However, the city's rapid development came to a standstill due to the Turkish invasion and the plague.
Until 1918 the city belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . She came back to Hungary for a short time from 1938 to 1945 through the First Vienna Arbitration .
At the market square there is a Gothic Catholic church, which was built in the 15th century as a three-aisled complex. A reformed church was built in 1773. After the Second World War there was a strong industrialization in the city, for example there is a foundry, building material production and wood processing.
population
The population is made up of 55% Slovaks, 40% Hungarians and 5% the rest. In 1991 the majority of the population gave Hungarian as their nationality.
administration
In addition to the main town, Budulov (incorporated in 1986, in Hungarian Bodoló ) belongs to the town .
