Poproč (up to the 19th century in Slovak "Podproč"; in Hungarian Jászómindszent - until the end of the 18th century only Mindszent ) is a place and a municipality in the Okres Košice-okolie des Košický kraj in eastern Slovakia , with 2726 inhabitants (31. December 2019) .
geography
The municipality is located in the upper valley of the Bodva River , at the foot of the Volovské vrchy Mountains , which are part of the Slovak Ore Mountains . Poproč is four kilometers from Jasov and about 30 kilometers from the regional capital Košice .
history
A predecessor of today's place is mentioned as Elchuan in 1255 , but probably went under at the end of the 13th century. The current place is mentioned for the first time in 1358 as Medzenth . The story is closely tied to the Jasov Monastery and there were once rich silver deposits in the mountains.
In 1919, the place previously in Abaúj-Torna County and part of the Kingdom of Hungary came to Czechoslovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was once again part of Hungary from 1938-45.
