Rankovce (German Rankowetz , Hungarian RANK ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 928 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of kraj Košický heard.
geography
The municipality is located in the northern foothills of the Košická kotlina basin below the Slanské vrchy mountains to the east , in the valley of the Rankovský creek in the Oľšava catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 364 m nm and is 27 kilometers from Košice .
Neighboring municipalities are Mudrovce in the north, Juskova Voľa in the northeast, Banské in the east, Herľany in the southeast and south, Bačkovík in the southwest and Boliarov in the northwest.
history
The place originated in the area of the medieval manor of Svinica and was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1332 in a church tithing register as Rank , which also contains the name of the pastor at that time, András . In 1390 the Perényi family became new landowners. In 1427 27 porta were recorded in a register. In 1601 the village came under the dominion of the castle in Trebišov , before the property was divided between eight different landowners in the 18th century. In 1828 there were 47 houses and 322 residents who were employed as farmers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In 1949 the whole community was electrified.

According to the 2011 census, Rankovce had 705 inhabitants, of which 672 were Slovaks , 12 were Roma and one each was a Magyar and a Czech . 19 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
460 residents committed to the Evangelical Church AB, 137 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, 47 residents to the Seventh-day Adventists, eight residents to the Reformed Church, six residents to the Greek Catholic Church, three residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Apostolic Church and the New Apostolic Church. Nine residents were non-denominational and 33 residents had no denomination.
