Slanské Nové Mesto (until 1948 Slovak "Nové Mesto"; Hungarian Szaláncújváros - until 1907 Újváros ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 477 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of Košický kraj belongs . It is part of the traditional Abov landscape .
geography
The village is located in the southern part of the Slanské vrchy Mountains , in a small valley between the Roňava and Slivník streams . Two-thirds of the hilly municipal area is still forested, the rest is largely covered by arable land. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 221 m nm and is 23 kilometers from Trebišov and 28 kilometers from Košice .
To the east of the main town are the hamlets of Jozefova Pusta and Vyšný majer .
Neighboring communities are Svinica in the north, Zemplínska Teplica and very briefly Egreš in the east, Slivník in the southeast, Kalša in the south, Slanec in the west and Slančík and Ruskov in the northwest.
history
Slanské Nové Mesto was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Vyuarus on royal land, the probable founders were German "guests". At the end of the 14th century, members of the Lossonczy dynasty were landlords and incorporated the village into the dominion of Slanec Castle . In the 16th century, the Forgách family became the new landlord and remained so until the abolition of serfdom in the Kingdom of Hungary in 1848. The old town (Slovak Nové Mesto or Hungarian Újváros means new town ) was probably destroyed during the Turkish Wars, in 1715 there was only one here Household housed. In 1828 there were 115 houses and 815 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture, earlier they were also known as barrel makers.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Slanské Nové Mesto had 498 inhabitants, including 457 Slovaks and one Moravian. 40 residents gave no information in this regard. 262 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 159 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, six residents to the Reformed Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB, three residents each to the Seventh-day Adventists and the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church -Methodist Church. Ten residents were non-denominational and the denomination of 50 residents was not determined.
