Vajkovce (German Bogdanowetz , Hungarian Garbócbogdány - to 1892 Bogdány ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,132 (December 31, 2019) that the okolie Kosice Okres , part of kraj Košický heard.
geography
The village is located in the southeast part of the Košická kotlina basin , on the left bank of the Olšava river . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 221 m nm and is 18 kilometers from Košice .
Neighboring municipalities are Nižný Čaj in the north, Blažice in the northeast, Rákoš in the east, Vyšná Myšľa in the south and Nižná Hutka in the west.
history
Bohdanovce was possibly already mentioned in 1220, but was first mentioned in writing in 1335 as Bogdam . In the second year mentioned, a member of the Drugeth family received the local property after the previous owner died without descendants. In 1337 Garboc, which has been associated with Bohdanovce since the 19th century (also Garbovce in modern Slovak ), is mentioned for the first time. In 1427 Bohdanovce had a total of 21 portals according to a tax register . In 1828 there were 39 houses and 310 inhabitants.
Until 1918/1919, the place in Abaúj-Torna County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Bohdanovce had 1033 inhabitants, of which 938 were Slovaks , seven Magyars , five Roma and five Czechs and one Russian . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 76 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
646 residents professed their support for the Roman Catholic Church, 169 residents for the Reformed Church, 32 residents for the Greek Catholic Church, 11 residents for the Jehovah's Witnesses, nine residents for the Evangelical Church AB, seven residents for the Orthodox Church and one resident each for the Baptists , to the Apostolic Church, the Brethren Church and the Evangelical Methodist Church; six residents professed a different denomination. 63 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 86 residents was not determined.
