Komárovce (Hungarian Komaróc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia (2,019 as of December 31) square kilometers with a population of 391 to 8.47. This makes it one of the smallest communities in terms of area and population in Okres Košice-okolie , a part of Košický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the southern part of the Košická kotlina basin , about 18 kilometers southwest of Košice . In the municipality of Komárovce, the Lučný potok and Komarovský potok , coming from the foothills of the Slovak Ore Mountains, come together to flow over the Ida , a tributary of the Bodva . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 198 m nm in level terrain with numerous small drainage ditches. The wealth of water birds in this wetland is symbolized by a stork in the municipal coat of arms.
Neighboring communities of Komárovce are Veľká Ida in the northeast and southeast and Cestice in the west and northwest.
history
The area around Komárovce was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age, which is shown by the findings of the Bükker culture in the band pottery .
In 1365 the village was first mentioned in an inventory document. The name Komárovce first appeared in 1402. In 1427 there were 120 inhabitants. The oldest surviving seal in the community dates from 1754.
In 1910 there were 445 predominantly Hungarian residents in the village. Until 1918, Komárovce / Komaróc belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary like all the Hungarian-speaking places in Abaúj-Torna County and then became part of Czechoslovakia . After the First Vienna Arbitration Award , they were again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.

According to the results of the 2001 census, Komárovce had 394 inhabitants, including those
- 84.26% Hungary and
- 15.74% Slovaks.
42.1% of the residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church.
Attractions
- The oldest sacred building in Komárovce is the Reformed Church ( kostol reformovanej cirkvi ) from the early 19th century. It stands in the center of the village.
- The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of Mary ( kostol Nanebovstupenia Pana ) was built in 1925 at the northern end of the village.

Komárovce has partnerships with the Hungarian municipality of Boldogkőváralja and the small Latvian town of Staicele .
Economy and Infrastructure
The community has retained its rural character. The residents work in agriculture, in the service sector or commute to industrial plants in and around Košice . In the village there is a grocery store, a post office and a small pharmacy.
The road from Buzica to Veľká Ida runs through the municipality . Komárovce has a stop on the Košice-Barca-Rožňava railway .
