List of tourist regions of Slovakia

In Slovakia there are officially the following regions for tourism purposes:

Classification from 1980/1981

This classification is based on the documents "Rajonizácia cestovného ruchu ČSSR" from 1962 and "Rajonizácia cestovného ruchu SSR" from 1980. The main unit is called "tourist area" (oblasť cestovného ruchu). The main units are usually divided into another 2-4 sub-units. In this classification, the middle part of the Danube lowlands and the southeastern part of the East Slovak Lowlands are not considered tourist areas (they are therefore not included in the following list either). In the brackets, the popular / abbreviated name is first, if available, followed by a literal German translation of the official name:

  • Bratislavská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Bratislava "; Bratislava area ; including Záhorie (excluding Senica area) and the Little Carpathians )
  • Podunajská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Podunajsko "; Danube region )
  • Senická oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Senica -region )
  • Piešťansko-Trenčianska oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Piešťany - Trenčín -region )
  • Žilinská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Žilina -region )
  • Kysucká oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Kysuce "; Kischütz area )
  • Malofatranská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Malá Fatra "; Little Fatra region )
  • Oravská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Orava "; Arwa region )
  • Turčianska oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Turiec "; Turz area )
  • Hornonitrianska oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Horná Nitra "; Upper Neutra region )
  • Štiavnicko-Kremnická oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Banská Štiavnica - Kremnica -region )
  • Levická oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Levice -region )
  • Poľanská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Poľana "; Poľana area )
  • Nízkotatranská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Nízke Tatry "; Low Tatras region ; including Liptov )
  • Vysokotatranská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Vysoké Tatry "; High Tatras region ; including Spiš Magura and Pieniny )
  • Spišská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Spiš "; Spiš region )
  • Oblasť cestovného ruchu Slovenského raja (" Slovenský raj "; area of ​​the Slovak Paradise )
  • Gemerská oblasť cestovného ruchu (" Gemer "; Gemer area )
  • Juhoslovenská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( South Slovak region ; between Levice and the Slovak Karst)

Classification from 2004/2005

This classification is based on the document "Regionalizácia cestovného ruchu v SR" from 2004, which was created by Ústav turizmu, sro for the Slovak Ministry of Economic Affairs. The main unit is called "tourist region" (región cestovného ruchu). With this classification, the territory of Slovakia is completely covered:

  • Liptovský región cestovného ruchu (" Liptov "; Liptau region )
  • Tatranský región cestovného ruchu (" Tatry "; Tatra region )
  • Spišský región cestovného ruchu (" Spiš "; Spiš region )
  • Košický región cestovného ruchu (" Košice "; Košice region )
  • Šarišský región cestovného ruchu (" Šariš "; Sharosh region )
  • Hornozemplínsky región cestovného ruchu (" Horný Zemplín "; Upper Templin )
  • Dolnozemplínsky región cestovného ruchu (" Dolný Zemplín "; Lower Templin )

Other classifications

Various travel guides and map publishers have their own classifications. An example is the following map, which is largely inconsistent with the current official classification above.
