The town was re-established in 1990 under the name Starý Smokovec and renamed Vysoké Tatry in 1999. From 1947 to 1960, however, the municipality of Vysoké Tatry existed on a somewhat larger area. Even in the period from 1964 to 1990, however, the individual municipalities (Starý Smokovec was classified as a town) continued to have a joint administration in Starý Smokovec on the territory of the former unified municipality.

structure

Today the city comprises 14 formerly independent municipalities, which are divided into three districts:

The administrative headquarters are in Starý Smokovec . The city stretches for 46 kilometers from Podbanské (in the west) to Tatranská Kotlina (in the east).
