Švábovce (German Schwabsdorf , Hungarian Svábfalva - until 1907 Svábóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with a population of 1,570 (as of December 31, 2019) . It belongs to Okres Poprad , which is part of the higher Prešovský kraj district .
geography
The municipality is located seven kilometers southeast of Poprad , in the traditional Spiš landscape .
history
The place was mentioned for the first time in 1278 as villa Sweui and belonged to the brotherhood of 24 royal parishes, with which the existence of a church can be proven. In the 17th century, a manganese mine was put into operation south of the main town, which was active until the 1970s.
Sights include a Gothic Roman Catholic church from the 14th century and a Protestant church from 1970.
