Spišská Teplica (German Teplitz or Zeplitz , Hungarian Szepestapolca - until 1902 Szepesteplic ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia . It is located on the south side of the Podtatranská kotlina at the foot of the Kozie chrbty , 4 km southwest of Poprad .
The place arose during the German settlement of the Spiš and was first mentioned in 1280. Copper mines were built in the vicinity of the place. 1613 from the neighboring city founded Leutschau derived (Levoča) Samuel spill mountain, the first paper mill in the area of the former Kingdom of Hungary.
Becoming evangelical during the Reformation, the place lost a large part of its inhabitants in the 17th century due to religious persecution, who fled to the cities to keep their faith. This also changed the language group relationships. By the beginning of the 19th century, this process was completed and the place became completely Slovak.
The Roman Catholic Trinity Church from 1837 is worth seeing.
