Johann von Csaplovics came from an old noble family who had lived in Arwa County since 1320 and was born in Felső-Prébely in Greater Hont County (now Príbelce in Slovakia ).

After Csaplovics had completed a law degree, he did a legal internship with a lawyer from Neusohl . From December 1799 he began his legal career as a clerk and worked as a vice- notary from 1804 . In 1805 he received the lawyer diploma and from 1808 served as the county court assessor of the Sohl County .

In the summer of 1808 Csaplovics moved to Vienna. After working for a year at the Hungarian court chancellery , he traveled to the Slavonian market town of Pakracz (today Pakrac in Croatia ) in September 1809 , where he lived until May 1812 and performed administrative and legal tasks as the episcopal commissioner .

In April 1813, Csaplovics entered the service of the Counts of Schönborn as secretary and initially worked as administrators of the counts' manors . As early as 1815 he was appointed to the count's council and from 1819 he was director of the entire property complex of the counts in Hungary. Later Csaplovics returned to the civil service and worked as a court assessor on the court boards of the counties: Zólyom , Beregh , Marmaros and Ugocsa .

The little time he had in addition to his professional activity, Csaplovics used for his literary work in the fields of law , topography , geography and ethnology . He spent his twilight years in Vienna, where he died at the age of 66.
