Iván Nagy , also: Iván Nagy von Felsőgyőr , Iván von Nagy or Johann Nagy (born June 18, 1824 in a fair ; † October 26, 1898 in Horpács in Nógrád County ) was a Hungarian historian , genealogist and heraldist .

Life

Origin and family

Iván was a member of a Hungarian noble family . His parents were the secretary and archivist of Neograd County Franz (Ferenc) Nagy (1788–1843) and Anna, née Gebhardt (1784–1830).

He married Mária Csató de Szentsimon et Csatószeg (* 1837) in 1855. The marriage had three children.

Career

Nagy studied at the Law Academy in Pressburg until 1845 and immediately afterwards became a notary at the royal court table in ibid. During the revolution he fought as a first lieutenant in the Honved Army . From 1853 he was a lawyer at the fair and since 1855 curator at the university library in Pest . In 1870 he took over the editing of the Journal of the House of Representatives . For health reasons he withdrew to his country estate in 1878 and devoted himself to his historical and genealogical work. Nagy was Vice President of the Hungarian Heraldic and Genealogical Society in 1893, and since 1858 a corresponding and since 1874 a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .
