Ross Birrell

Ross Birrell (* 1969 in Paisley ) is a Scottish conceptual artist .

life and work

Ross Birrell teaches at the Glasgow School of Art . He uses films, sculptures, installations, music, texts, events and publications as artistic media.

Birrell described his work “The Transit of Hermes ” for documenta 14 as a “mobile, participatory , human-equine ensemble lasting 100 days ”. During the 100-day documenta, four riders covered the distance from Athens to Kassel on horses - and thus also traced one of the escape routes across Europe.
