Veľký Slavkov (German Großschlagendorf , Hungarian Nagyszalók - also Nagyszalok ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia in the Spiš region . It is located in the Podtatranská kotlina basin near the High Tatras and about five kilometers from Poprad .
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1251 under the name Zolok .
In 1947 parts of the municipality came to the newly founded municipality Vysoké Tatry . The mountain Slavkovsky peak (2452 m above sea level. Inst.) Is named after the town.
The place has a stop on the Tatrabahn Electric Railway .
