Spišské Bystré (until 1948 Slovak "Kubachy"; German Kuhbach , Hungarian Hernádfalu - until 1907 Kubach ) is a municipality in the Okres Poprad of Prešovský kraj , with 2,430 inhabitants.
geography
The community is located in the Hornádska kotlina basin at the confluence of the Bystré and Kubášok streams, the former flowing into the Hornád north of the village. To the north rises the narrow Kozie chrbty mountain range , while to the south is the Low Tatras . Spišské Bystré is nine kilometers from Poprad .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1294 as villa Cubach . The name indicates the main occupation - livestock and agriculture. The fate of the place is closely linked to the monastery in nearby Spišský Štiavnik , which commissioned a Mr. Helebrant to found a place in the upper valley of the Hornád river as mayor. The place had a mixed Slovak-German population.
